Environmental & Social Impact

 

As a business, we want to make sure we take responsibility for the impact that our operations and business model have on our people (be it our customers, suppliers or our neighbours), the community and the environment. We’re committed to improving on this every day.
Being a small, family owned company – right now we have that unique ability to be nimble and directly control our impact, which we take full advantage of – to set us up for the future.

Here’s a few of the things we’re doing now, and some of the things we want to do in the future, to keep looking after our home. As a family-owned and operated distillery, we focus on the areas in which we can have the most immediate impact which are:

1. OWNERSHIP:

  • We are 100% family owned and operated.

2. LOCAL SUPPLY CHAINS:

  • We are committed to working with local suppliers who share our values where possible.
  • Our labels, tissue paper and shipping boxes are all sourced from local suppliers, those of which manufacture with certified sustainable materials and those that champion alternative eco-friendly packaging supplies and are committed in their sustainability efforts.
  • We use New Zealand water, fresh New Zealand fruits and source our botanicals from a local supplier.

3. PACKAGING:

  • Our bottles are 100% recyclable (watch this space for our refill program!).
  • We use synthetic corks instead of natural corks, which are also 100% recyclable.
  • The packaging we use to get our products safely to your door has been chosen specifically because we believe it is lighter on the planet. We use shipper boxes, paper tape, stickers and tissue paper instead of plastic, and paper filler instead of bubble wrap. Which means, everything can go into the compost!*

*Depending on your waste set-up.

4. WASTE:

Whether it be from the distilling process or packaging process, unfortunately as a manufacturer we do produce waste. But we’re committed to reducing what goes to landfill:

  • Botanical waste produced from the distilling process is placed in our compost (not the worm-farm, as they’re all under-age of course).
  • We currently host about 10,000 compost worms who eat all of our veggie scraps produced from our property. We’re constantly adding more levels and use this to feed all of our plants – some of which are used in the distilling process.

5. WATER:

  • As we’re a rural property, our water is captured in our water tanks when it rains.

SOME PROJECTS ON THE HORIZON:

  • B Corp Certification – we’ve started this process, but we have a long way to go!
  • Digital Recipe Sheets & Tracking (Currently recycled paper)
  • Bottle Re-use, re-fill program.
